Is diversity an opportunity for scholarly publishing?

There are numerous reports on how businesses have benefitted from diversity in terms of gaining a competitive edge, developing new markets and ultimately bolstering the bottom line. Can the scholarly publishing industry gain similar if not better benefits from diversity?

According to a panel discussion on diversity in the scholarly publishing industry that took place at the annual meeting of the Professional and Scholarly Publishing, division of the Association of American Publishers the answer is, yes.

Panelists speaking on the topic said that diversity in the form of ideas, research, people, cultures, and best practices could only enhance a publisher’s ability to be innovative and productive.
