Cognitive search—enabling enterprises to go beyond the traditional search box

March 20, 2018

Cognitive search is the next evolution of enterprise search. It has the potential to add improvements in accuracy, relevance, and efficiency of insight discovery. There are two views on cognitive search. Some see it as a simple traditional search enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). Others view it as a sophisticated combination of capabilities that make cognitive search distinct from and superior to traditional search.

It is true that cognitive search uses AI to return results that are relevant to the user. However, it does not stop with that. Cognitive search brings myriad data sources together. In addition, it leverages sophisticated tagging automation and personalization to improve how clients and employees of an enterprise discover and access the information they need to handle their job roles effectively.

If used perceptively, cognitive search can make it easier for enterprises to provide relevant information and improve client engagement. It can also provide a comprehensive solution that engages employees, makes them more productive, and allows them to focus their time on generating revenue rather than searching fruitlessly for information that should be readily available.
